Ilana SINGER Siegal

For much of her life, Ilana Singer Siegal believed that if she asked enough questions, she would eventually find the right answers. Over time, she discovered living well does not come from certainty. Living well comes from developing the capacity to stay present with uncertainty long enough to experience moments of clarity.
For more than two decades, Ilana has been exploring what allows humans to see clearly when fear, uncertainty, identity, and love all compete for our attention. That inquiry has taken her into the study of movement, biomechanics, yoga therapy, creativity, coaching, neuroscience, philosophy, and conflict —not as separate disciplines, but as different ways of exploring the same enduring questions: How do we help a body feel better? A relationship? A family? A community? What actually changes when a life changes?
In 2013, Ilana founded LifeWorks Studio in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, to cultivate a culture of radical care—for ourselves, for one another, and for the communities we create together. What began as a movement space and a community gathering place has continued to evolve through the practice of coaching, facilitation, mediation, and education. Across every setting, her work explores what happens when humans meet themselves and each other at the intersection of our nervous systems, our relationships, and the choices that shape our lives.
Ilana is among the first to be a certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists, a professional certified coach, a movement educator, and a mediator. She has spent more than twenty years working with individuals, families, organizations, and communities, and has been recognized by Berkshire Magazine as one of the Berkshire 25 for her work supporting families in Southern Berkshire County. Whether she is teaching movement, facilitating conflict, or guiding difficult conversations, she helps people lower the threat level, recover access to curiosity and capacity, see more clearly, and create the conditions for more aliveness to emerge. Again and again, her work returns to one simple idea: sanity first, then pleasure.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ilana for many years now. However, after way too much time spent away, I found myself in pain and had acquired some bad habits. After only one session with Ilana, I was given easy tools to help manage my imbalances and on-going sustainable homework to rebuild my body literally from the bones up! With continued one on one’s with her and group classes, I cannot believe the difference after only a month! I am blown away at how quickly my body has changed and gained strength and balance. It may sound weird, but I feel smarter and my brain is clearer as well. I feel like a new, better version of myself! Working with Ilana is a total no-brainer. Everyone needs Ilana in their lives. :)

I like the way Ilana manages to balance detailed background knowledge with a spontaneous response to each moment. There’s a unifying core idea that ties together everything she does and makes it feel totally coherent—but she is never remotely doctrinaire about it. I appreciate how she is both empathetic and demanding, and her main mode seems to be an interested, bouncy playfulness that makes everything fun.

Working with Ilana has healed my body in ways I didn’t realize were possible. Because I started to take her Barre class and learn purple ball work, I was recently able to finish my workday without carpal tunnel aches. I was blown away and continue to be so at every interaction. This is just one instance of countless others (two pregnancies, a birth, shoulder tightness, abdominal pain, classes) that Ilana has listened to me and supported me through life. Ilana’s knowledge and compassion paired with her drive to ask the “why” and “how” set her and LifeWorks Studio head and shoulders above the rest. My body and mind have literally been changed and I will be forever grateful.
